Emerging Leaders Scholarship Programme
The Scholarship Programme
Denmark has set aside funding over a five-year period from 2007 for scholarships to assist selected entrepreneurs and emerging business leaders from Danida’s programme countries to take the full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Copenhagen Business School (CBS), the full-time Sustainable MBA at Aarhus School of Business, Aarhus University or the M.Sc in Agricultural Economics with a focus on agribusiness. The aim is to assist suitable applicants to further develop the initiatives and the potential they will already have demonstrated, and to equip them to operate in the globalised economy.
Copenhagen Business School’s full-time MBA was recently independently ranked among the top six in Europe “integrating issues of social and environmental stewardship into curricula and research”. Aarhus School of Business (part of Aarhus University) is ranked 81 among the Top100 universities in the world and Copenhagen University is ranked 12 in Europe and 48 in the world. ELSP scholars will follow the normal MBA or M.Sc. curriculum together with classmates from Denmark and many other countries. Consistent with Danish policy and priorities, ELSP intends to award the majority of its scholarships in Africa, where new jobs and income generation are essential to sustainable development. Particular focus will be placed on assisting women to overcome gender-based barriers which hamper their potential contribution to private sector growth. The target is to award at least half the scholarships to African women.
Funding
The estimated total cost of obtaining an MBA (one-year programme) in 2010/11 is appr. DKK 413,500, including tuition fees, living costs and transport for ONE person for the duration of the full-time MBA course at Copenhagen Business School. For the MBA at Aarhus School of Business the estimated cost in 2010/11 is DKK 305,000. For the M.Sc. (two-year programme) the same figure is DKK 520,000. ELSP scholarships will cover 90% of the total cost, and the applicant must therefore be prepared to secure the remaining 10% of the cost from own resources or through sponsorship from her/his company.
Application Procedures
Danish Embassies in Danida programme countries are invited to identify and contact potential ELSP scholars, who should submit their applications to the ELSP Programme Manager at Danida Fellowship Centre (DFC) via the Embassy. Scholarships will be awarded by a committee comprising representatives of the relevant institution and of DFC. Applications received directly by DFC without the support of a Danish Embassy will not be processed. For more information, go to the CBS website, ASB website or to LIFE, Copenhagen University's website .
Information regarding the application procedure is posted here for the MBA, the Sustainable MBA, and the M.Sc. respectively. Please find the application form here. Programme/project support on page 4 of the form is not applicable.
